Germany Takes Two Golds on First Day of Alpine Skiing Europa Cup
Germany had the edge on the first day of the third round of the IPC European Cup in Sestriere, Italy, dominating the sit ski category in the men’s and women’s events to take the top two podium positions in the Giant Slalom.
Franz “The Unbeatable” Hanfstingl lived up to his name by slipping into first place ahead of his teammate Georg Kreiter in Giant Slalom Sitting. Austria’s Roman Rabl came third.
In the women’s event, Anna Schaffelhuber once again this season had the edge over her teammate Anna-Lena Forster, who came second. Bronze went to Switzerland’s Sonja Wyss.
France did will in the standing events with Solene Jambaque taking gold in the women’s Giant Slalom standing and Vincent Manuel-Gauthier taking silver. He was beaten by Switzerland’s Thomas Pfyl, who came first. Austria’s Markus Salcher was pushed into third place, having been at the top of the podium for the first two Giant Slalom races in Pitztal, Germany earlier this season.
In the Visually Impaired events, Russia’s Alexandra Frantseva took gold in the women’s event with guide Pavel Zabotin. Anna Kosinka of Poland came second and Italy’s Falvia Rosso came in third.
In the men’s Giant Slalom Visually Impaired, Slovakia’s Jakub Krako took gold, to continue his unbeaten record this season in the event. Russia’s Valery Redkozubov and Italy’s Luigi Bertanza came second and third respectively.
